KPBA - ABOUT US

The King Philip Basketball Association (KPBA) is a youth basketball organization serving the Plainville, Wrentham and Norfolk communities. The KPBA's goal is to develop youth basketball players while focusing on skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and player self-esteem, all while preparing players for the next level of competitive basketball to be played at the High School level.

The KPBA currently manages the 3rd-8th grade youth basketball travel teams in the King Philip Region (Norfolk, Plainville and Wrentham).  Our primary focus is organizing and managing competitive teams that participate in the MetroWest Travel League.  There are a total of twenty two teams in the KPBA every year. Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 have four teams: a girls and boys Metro "A" team and a girls and boys Metro "B" team.  Grade 4 has two evenly balanced girls teams and two evenly balance boys teams named Green and White. We also have at least one 3rd grade girls team and one 3rd grade boys team that plays a shorter season then the older grades.  Tryouts are held each year using independent evaluators to select each of these teams.  The MetroWest League is the most competitive league in Southeastern Massachusetts so the top ten players in each tryout are selected for Metro "A" team.  The next eleven players are selected for the Metro "B" team.  Both teams are part of the MetroWest league, but play in different divisions. For 4th grade the top 24 players are placed on two evenly balanced teams, and for 3rd grade tryouts everyone is assigned to a team.

The typical KPBA travel team will follow the following schedule:

  • Team Selection - Tryouts are held in September.
  • Practice Schedule - Mid-October through early March with 2 practices per week (1.5 to 2hrs each).
  • Games Schedule - MetroWest League:  11 or 12 Games plus playoffs (All games on Sundays except playoffs)
